Tried punching the cap, but it must have been dry and delicate, because the cap split down the side. The ash also kept splitting and falling off around a half inch. The flavor was a little underwhelming and bitter, but a night smoking a cigar is better than not smoking a cigar, no matter which one I'm smoking.
Punch cut, cold draw was loose enough so I lit it up. Puffed while lighting rather than toasting the foot since it was a closed foot and it was tasty right away. Dark, earthy, leathery, and a bit of cayenne heat in the retrohale, enough to make my eyes water (I swear I'm not crying). Nice smoke output and good draw and burn for at least the first inch and a half. Heard a crack while I was typing and there is a bit of a split in the wrapper where the filler and binder started to swell. It's a warm mid-to-high 80s day with very little humidity outside (9%) and I didn't dry-box or let the cigar adjust to the outside temp and humidity so the splitting is expected. Ash dropped at an inch and a half. The next puff had a slight plastic taste but that disappeared in the puff after. Solid taste and aroma which I expect from a Diesel, but nothing out of the ordinary. The splitting continued but didn't affect the smoke much, if at all.
Halfway through, the flavor became more unified and earthy, the spiciness in the retrohale subsided a bit and the next ash dropped at another inch and a half. All in all, not bad. The wrapper cracking is unfortunate but didn't have a poor effect on the cigar other than the appearance. The punch cut gave a streamlined draw hitting on the back of the tongue. Slightly bitter, very earthy and leathery. I expected a bit of coffee flavor but can't taste it much if at all. Finished strong through the cracked wrapper with a touch-up here and there from the loose binder/wrapper. The hot burn helped to loosen up the band so I could pull it off without further damage to the wrapper. Other than the earthy flavors, I didn't get much else. Sometimes the bitterness will bring a floral flavor forward but it just kept a strong leather taste.
The wrapper cracked as soon as I cut this cigar. I don't think my humidor is under 67%r/h but this cigar seems pretty dry. I may need to rearrange my humidor so that the humidifier is more centered in the humidor. The other possibility is that the wrapper is just fragile and I do hope that's the case.
Good flavor and aroma. Spicy on the retrohale with an earthy, leathery base.
I really.enjoy this stick. The draw is great and the burn was awesome. The ash was almost perfect with the stick. Nice light gray in color. Perfect Sunday afternoon smoke. Stay smokey my friends.
This was a good stick. It drew very nice all the way through. The burn 🔥 was good for most of the stick. But it did have a little issue the last 3rd. Had to relight a few times. But the flavor was good. Spice in the first 3rd and then mellowed out and the last 3rd was more Medium Flavored.
The taste of unaged tobacco overpowers the nuttiness and earthiness. Could have used a bit more dry-boxing as the wrapper severely split during the smoke. The astringent taste is off-putting and the constant touching up with the lighter was a bit annoying. Maybe with a bit more rest and age it will be a decent cigar. I get some positive flavor with retrohale but not enough to be really enjoyable. The draw is effortless and it produces quite a bit of smoke. Maybe smoking faster will help to even out the burn and give a more balanced flavor. Four more in the humidor. Maybe one will sway my opinion and change my mind so that I would buy again.
