Updated review, almost a year of rest. The profile is smooth, with notes primarily of wood and spices. A great draw and dead even burn made for an enjoyable smoke. Extra touches of earth and brighter spice come through on the retro.

La Gloria Cubana

First time with this blend. The profiles leans to an earthy but sweet tone with almost no pepper. A slight tinge comes through on the retro. The draw is open, providing a ton of smoke.

Asylum

Repeated review. A brightly spiced but boldly aged cigar. A surprisingly smooth profile of rich tobacco. Firm construction and adequate draw, with a burn line that stayed very even.

AVO

Consistent review. This is still my least favorite of the Avo brand. Let this one age about a year and it still is just missing something compared to their others. Smooth, creamy, leather notes with barely any spice. Burns decent just misses the mark on flavor intensity.

AJ Fernandez

Well built cigar: nice smooth rosado wrapper. few veins, well packed. Good draw, good smoke production. It starts with a pepper blast and some harshness in the palate that mellows out in the first third. Earthy, mineral notes in the second third. In the last third it turns bitter and unpleasant. Not a cigar I’ll buy again.

Second review. First review came as a 70, but after 9 months of rest the flavor and draw are improved. A simple cigar, nothing fancy or complex. Earth and some backend spice. Open but smoother draw, and the burn stayed even. Definitely a cigar that needs considerable rest after purchase.

Repeat review. Very consistent here. Immediate pepper leading into cream and cedar throughout the rest of the smoke. A gentle experience overall with an adequate draw and burn.

Romeo y Julieta

Lots of people say this is a medium to full body, but I get more of a medium vibe, maybe a light medium. Solid foot and body with creamy, caramel, and almond notes. A bit of pepper on the back part of the body. Paired with Johnny Walker 18. Which didn’t enhance either. Perhaps the JW was a bit too mild, and this needs a bourbon. This is a solid value cigar at $4.79 per.

Romeo y Julieta

The foot of the cigar is impressive from the start, showcasing a medium to full-bodied profile. I found that I had to take a few more pulls than I do with other cigars, but that might be due to its toro size rather than a robusto. The Romeo y Julieta Reserve Toro cigar features a blend of Nicaraguan and Honduran long-filler tobaccos. It is wrapped in a dark, oily Nicaraguan leaf and bound with a Nicaraguan binder. The cigar burns well, especially considering its price of $7.29 each. I believe I would enjoy this cigar even more in a robusto size, as it pairs nicely with coffee. Others have mentioned that it complements the palate after a meal or with a drink, and I agree so far.

Repeat review. This one is incredibly smooth, even better with 8 months of rest. Lots of cream, milk chocolate, and some woody notes. Everything blends together very well. A slightly airy draw produces a good amount of smoke.

A very clean and elegant smoke, with flavors of light earth, cedar, leather, and a subtle touch of pepper. The construction is medium in firmness, the draw is perfect, and the burn only needed minor corrections. A solid cigar.

This is a very deep and oily cigar, with a strong note of bold espresso. There is practically no pepper at all, so that coffee / espresso flavor stays prominent throughout. An easy draw and even burn the entire way.

Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust

After a full year of age since I got this particular box, the draw is getting incredibly smooth. The profile still consists of leather and espresso with just a subtle touch of pepper on the back end.

Rested 4 months.The pairing with the Johnnie Walker Black really brought out the whiskey flavor of the cigar. Burn wavy and draw good. Oaky nutty with a touch of sweet whiskey. Great for a dreary day.
