Rested 4 months. Burn and draw both great. Flavors of mostly cedar, earth, and spice with a touch of leather and coffee. Definitely has a bold overall flavor. The ginger ale did bring out a bit of sweetness.

So long time no see, eh? Sadly nothing heart wrenching to report in my life. Just swamped with general life stuff. Transitioned to a new job and had to bid adieu to my 16 year old Corolla in the intervening time since my last review. I have a truck now so my bi-weekly hardware store visits to finish the basement don't involve the Home Depot rental truck anymore. Let's pick up again with a followup review to these Olivia O's. As always, I am ever the amateur and my nose remains bad as its job. So your mileage may vary. The evening sun is out, it's a still and sweltering 92F. I count myself fortunate that I can enjoy a few quiet moments at the end of the day. Prelight rituals as always... Construction is good with barely visible seams and a couple veins to follow. Smell is cedar and after many months in the humidor, the faint nutmeg and and cinnamon I detected back in the long lost month of September of yesteryear is gone. Draw is a little tight, but my cheapo 7mm punch seems to be getting dull. Did I ruin the cap? No, but I don't dare punch it again. I'm reminded that one of those perfecdraw thingamajigs might be worth it. First third, is largely uneventful. Strong cedar notes on the nose fade away very quickly and I pick up the nutmeg and cinnamon again. Gentle earthiness pokes out here and there but I wouldn't even call it a secondary flavor. Smoke is thick and easy despite the tight draw. Just like last time (and several other unwritten sessions) there's no harshness. Second third is almost identical to the first. Turned earth finally decided to take a seat at the bar instead of staring from outside. Burn remains straight and no fuss. Last third, and the creeping bitterness I always get off these pokes into the building, but the humidor time seems to have at least put it on a leash. Kinda like a curious dog when their owner chats with a friend on the sidewalk. A couple purges staves it off and the familiar burnt molasses creeps in. That bitterness? Well it finally decides to come sit at the table... Sit at the table? Well, I said it was like a dog. It is, in fact, a very large dog. And it is wet. It is very much the elephant in the room now. I will say this, some 6 months did stave off the bitterness until halfway thru the last third. So a bit of an improvement.

Pretty bland smoke. Had burn issues throughout the whole smoke to the point I could barely keep it lit the last 3-5” until it went out with about 2.5” left. A little disappointed with this one from Oliva but I’ve got a few more of the O’s to give it another run.

First time smoking this particular Oliva blend, and am a bit disappointed. Appearance wise, the cigar looked great and well constructed. First third was enjoyable. Smooth, light smoke. Excellent draw, even burn. Second third had one uneven burn spot which I needed to touch up. Draw remained good, ash was good, and smoke remained smooth, but started to increase in temperature towards the end of that second third. The last third became bitter - the taste changed a lot and I no longer wanted to continue smoking it. To be forthcoming, this was a robusto, a vitola I generally don’t smoke (I tend to enjoy toros and larger), so that may have influenced my experience. I have four more of these and will give it another try in a few weeks.

As always, prefacing this that I'm an amateur and that my sense of smell is poor. So without further Ado... So on a hot day visiting my dear old mother and I've found a calm period to enjoy this one. It's 93F out in the sun, but comfy in the shade with a steady breeze. The prelight smell is mainly cedar and faint baking spices. A very vague pepper is present, but not enough to pin down. Construction is good with veins present but clean seams and cap. Draw with a 7mm punch is good and tastes just like it smells. Pairing for today is a little southern sweet tea and lemon. First third: Light cedar and baking spices rule the roost. It's all I'm getting with a hint of earthiness. Smoke is light and plentiful. Burn is even, although quick in the constant wind. Retrohale is cedar and spices. Fairly one note, but never harsh. The sweet tea is doing a good job balancing out. Ashing it and I find I've coned it just a hair. Second third: The wind picks up enough that the cigar nearly rolls off the planter saucer I'm using as an improvised ashtray and rest. No harm. Entering this third not much has changed. Cedar, baking spices, and a little dry earth. About halfway in, the cedar picks up in strength and the baking spices check out. Much like aging in general, a faint bitterness starts creeping in. Burn gets a little wavy, but nothing needing touching up. Final third: So far pretty easy ride. The cedar picks up a musty quality and adds some tongue texture the smoke was lacking. The creeping bitterness picks up. The closest I can think of is burnt molasses. Just over halfway and all that's left is musty cedar. Think cedar grilling plank left on the grill too long. Bitterness is to the point that it lingers well after the fact. And that was it. Not a bad smoke. CigarPage bills this as a medium-to-full and I would disagree: it's a medium at best. I somewhat prefer the Alec Bradley Medalist, but these can be had for cheaper on sales. A fairly no frills experience, and ideal if you're looking for a tabletop conversation with friends and family instead of jotting down notes on flavors whilst alone.
